Goodwill Industries® of South Texas Partners with Coastal Compass To Help Coastal Bend Residents Advance Their Skills and Change Their Lives

Corpus Christi, TX – Goodwill Industries of South Texas is excited to partner with Coastal Compass Education and Career Resource Center to provide job training, employment placement and support services to people with disabilities and those with disadvantages such as older workers, unemployed veterans and people who have a criminal background. The partnership officially kicks off with a Welcome Reception on Tuesday, September 18th at 10 a.m. at the Coastal Compass located at La Palmera Mall, 5488 South Padre Island Drive Suite #1572.

“Goodwill has a long history of providing job training and employment to the most fragile populations in the Coastal Bend at Goodwill stores, donation stations and various commercial contracts. The partnership with Coastal Compass helps Goodwill reach individuals who might not be aware of the types of employment services available to them,” said John Owen, President & CEO of Goodwill Industries of South Texas.

According to Workforce Solutions of the Coastal Bend, there were more than 5,000 job openings in WorkInTexas.com in August 2018. Many of these jobs remain unfilled because job applicants lack specific skills employers report they need. One way that Goodwill trains people for the workforce is through a digital skills grant from Google. As a Google grant Digital Enthusiast recipient, Goodwill aims to teach digital skills which includes basic computer skills that one would need to know to establish an email address, apply for a job or perform many entry level tasks. Goodwill staff will be on-site at Coastal Compass on Friday afternoons from 2-6 p.m.

“Our goal is to provide the training that people need to advance their skills and change their lives. Goodwill’s partnership with Coastal Compass helps us prepare people for tomorrow’s workforce,” said Owen.
