This is an exciting, educational, and enjoyable experience. VITA is offered through the Coastal Bend CA$H Coalition and assists low-income working individuals and families to help prepare and e-file their tax returns.
Top 4 Reasons to become a VITA Volunteer
- No previous experience is required. Volunteers receive specialized training from certified VITA volunteers and can serve as greeters, reviewers, or tax preparers.
- IRS provides free tax law training, e-filing training, and all the materials needed to prepare basic individual income tax returns.
- The hours are flexible. Volunteers are asked to serve an average of 3-5 hours per week from mid-January through tax deadline, which is on April 17, 2012.
- Volunteer sites are conveniently located at community centers such as Goodwill in Flour Bluff, Kingsville, and Port Ave.
Last year more than 88,000 volunteers answered the call and made a difference by preparing more than 3 million tax returns at thousands of sites all across the country.
